Is doing the work you’re trying to find a way around.

Yesterday was filled with work, a trip to the grocery store, and my wife sneaking in a little Christmas shopping. Today, there might be a tiny bit of work before an early Thanksgiving celebration at the in-laws.

Because, if we’re being honest, you probably spent more time trying to find away around it then if you just put your head down and did it in the first place.

Or, maybe your head’s been down since the start and you’re wondering when you can look up.

If we’re being honest again, probably never.

Let’s back up so I can tell you what sparked this idea.

I got a couple emails this week from two good insurance friends, Tracy Cotton and Allen Drew.

They both were asking about paying for content or content exposure in some form or fashion.

While there’s definitely a time and a place for accelerating the distribution of your content, it shouldn’t come before you’ve achieve this one goal.

Until that happens, you don’t need to worry about anything else.

Nothing else matters because if you pay before it does you’re throwing money at indifference.

It takes a long time for your attention/trust building skills to coalesce into something habitable.

If you don’t believe me, here’s a few personal stats.

I’ve been talking into a microphone for 15 years. I’ve been sitting in front of a camera for 7 and I’ve been writing, creatively, in some form or fashion since high school.

I just simply decided to start doing it about insurance, and that was a long time ago too.

Several years ago I decided to dedicate myself to being equally great (as good as I can be) at creating three forms of content (written, audio, video).

I didn’t see a reason not to be and so far that decision has proven to be useful.

My head’s been down for awhile, if yours has only been down for six months, a year or even two, you’ve still got plenty of time for things to come together.

If you don’t want to wait five, 10 or 15 years, then you just need to do it more often.

Write everyday.

Record everyday.

Edit everyday.

Communicate everyday.

Get better, faster.

No one says you can’t.

While you might enjoy the aroma that permeates from the Agency Nation atmosphere, actually staying on the ground long enough to do the work is the true challenge.

Especially when you see someone taking a shortcut.

The only thing you have to remember is there’s a good chance you didn’t see where they ended up.
