Yes. TrustedChoice.com is an online referral generator.
But it’s so much more than that too.
Defining it solely as an online referral generator is seeing it through a specific lens.
Through the eyes of an agent.
Let’s widen that lens a bit.
The Connected Economy
If you’ve ever heard Ryan Hanley speak, you’ve probably heard the term “the connected generation.”
It’s how Ryan describes today’s consumers: people who communicate, build relationships and ultimately make buying decisions using the internet.
The interwebs has forced business owners to adapt to the needs of this new consumer generation.
But this connectivity the internet has created is also re-shaping the economy as a whole.
Rent, not buy.
Remember when we used to own movies?
Heck, I don’t even go to RedBox anymore because it’s too much work.
I just stream away on Netflix, Hulu and Vudu.
I also stream all my music on Spotify – I don’t have an album collection or a huge external storage drive of individually-purchased iTunes songs.
Oh and I have a monthly subscription for Microsoft Office and Adobe Premiere Pro (for video editing).
Ownership is becoming a thing of the past. It’s all about affordable, short-term commitments I can access now.
Quick story. I promise it will end somewhere important.
I recently moved to Minneapolis, MN from Alexandria, VA. Besides almost freezing while waiting for the bus in six layers and -2 degree weather, it’s been an amazing experience.
A few days ago, my roommate brought home a Sonos sound system. If you don’t know what this is, you should absolutely check it out.
Besides being run off Bluetooth eliminating all the typical excessive wiring, it’s controlled by an app on your phone.
Think about it – controllers are the worst part of media devices.
You’re always running low on battery power (and waiting until it completely dies before driving like a crazy person to the grocery store), losing it for days on end or discovering the dog has chewed the power button off.
On the other hand, I always have my phone with me. And I basically guard it with my life.
Sonos took a risk killing the traditional remote control, but it paid off big time.
Mobile connectivity has now worked its way into the most inconsequential items in our own homes.
(Here’s The Big One) Uber. Facebook. Airbnb.
These are three of the most powerful and successful businesses today.
None of them actually offer a product or service.
Uber isn’t a taxi service. Facebook isn’t a newspaper. Airbnb isn’t a hotel.
They simply connect people who do offer products/services with those who need them.
Uber connects drivers with people who need a ride.
Facebook connects content creators with people looking for a laugh, an idea or a smile.
Airbnb connects hosts with people who need a place to stay.
None of these businesses came into existence in a vacuum though.
Their more traditional counterparts (taxis, newspapers and hotels) had a monopoly for decades using a business to consumer model.
But the accessibility and affordability of information (and the advancement of technology) paved the way for something different.
Enter the connected economy. A place where business models take advantage of the connectivity that the internet has created.
Back To The Starting Point
So, let’s define TrustedChoice.com once again, but this time through a wide lens; that of the insurance industry.
It’s not just an online referral generator.
It’s a platform that connects independent insurance agents with people looking for insurance.
It’s participating in a new wave of business models seen rising in other industries.
Yes. One of our primary goals, of course, is to provide our agents with solid referrals.
But we also have a vision to be more than that.
